After dusk. Limited edition of 45 risograph prints.

2021

This print was borne out of a photo of the London skyline taken from the top of Tate Modern. This view enchants me- I love the mix of old and new buildings, the glistening river, the sprawl of the city. After dusk, it really comes into its own, the lit-up building like beacons in the darkness, the multi-coloured lights shining along the river bank.

Printing it as a risograph presented two challenges: first, the colours needed to be limited as 3-4 layers work best for risos. Instead of going for multiple colours for the lights, I chose to go for blue and green, creating a gradient effect from the buildings to the river and bringing a peaceful unity to the image.

Having that much black on the top layer was also a challenge, and the studio team did a wonderful job of pushing the opacity as high as possible to convey the inky blackness of the night.

The result is an ode to London, the magic of its lights and sights, and the promises of its sleepless nights.
