From the Rooftops. Limited edition of 40 risograph prints.

2020

And so begins a new adventure.

This print was borne out of necessity. Unable to go to my screen printing studio during lockdown, I looked at options to continue printing while I was homebound, and this is how I started getting into risograph printing.

Riso printing shares a lot of quality with screen printing, and I therefore could use my designs with a few tweaks, and then send them on to a studio to print it for me, so it was perfect for my situation.

This design was something I had been thinking of doing as a screenprint and I thought it would work very well as a riso print too, with a few adjustments; and indeed it does- the photos do not do justice to how vibrant the colours are.

The photo I used for the design has a lovely back story: Before I moved to London, I used to live in a tiny room under the eaves of a Paris apartment building, and my friends and I soon noticed that we could get onto the roof of the building if we went out a specific window and up a ladder. We used to often go and sit there, taking in the breathtaking city views around us, feeling like we owned the world.

So in this year where most of us are stuck at home most of the time, it is important to remember there is a huge world around us and a limitless sky above us.
