Conversation. Limited edition of 45 risograph prints.

2021

This new print is hopefully the first of a series I am hoping to work on in the autumn.

I used an image of two old friends deep in a conversation at a party but removed all traces of the room they were in, instead layering some bokeh light in a bright blue gradient over the background, and using a large halftone on their faces. I am really happy with how it came out, it really captured what I wanted to show: the hazy seriousness of a late night conversation, a snapshot of my beautiful friends, a fleeting moment retrieved from the past .

I want to do a full series from these party pictures: candid images of people chatting and having fun, the light and cheery mood suggested by colourful bokeh, but with the halftone adding an edgy and dark element to the image.

The specific moments captured are of course unique to the people in the photograph, but there is something universal about these images of youthful fun: they evoke colourful, happy and unfocused memories we can all relate to, but the lightness and joy is also underlined by the great depth and pathos of teenage emotions.
