Electric Night. Limited edition of 45 risograph prints.

2021

As I continue to explore risograph printing, I am starting to leave behind the automatisms I have acquired from a few years of screenprinting. Riso printing, unlike screenprinting, can handle opacity gradient. it doesn’t need the artifice of a halftone effect to give the effect of a more or less transparent colour.

For the first time on this print, I used real gradient to translate the glow of the street light dissolving into the blackness of the night.

Like many of my screenprints, this is based on a Paris photo- but I have left the gutters of Pigalle here and gone up the hill to the lovely streets of Montmartre. And on this print, like on the rooftops one previously I use the riso colours to their maximum, giving an electric glow to a deserted street.
