Aftermath. Limited edition of 25 screenprints on paper.

2022

The aftermath of the storm.

Stillness suddenly descend as the fabric of the landscape still darkens and the paper appears to smolder.

The pier is just a trace of light on the horizon, the shoreline disappears and a few solitary silhouettes remain.

This print ins the first of two I created from the same photo of Brighton’s West pier, destroyed by fire in 2003. I played with the light and colours on both, creating the illusion of a scintillating glow in the first one, and the distress of a chemical burn in the second one.

Taken together, they create the narrative of a catastrophe, the moments before and immediately after an unnamed event. The light seems to destroy the image on the paper, obliterating and scorching the landscape until only the ghost of the pier remain.
