Make-up. Limited edition of 10 screenprints on paper.

2019

This print is based on an original photograph I took of a friend applying make-up, a long time ago back in Paris.

The photo was a close-up, focussing on his hands and his eye as he applied eyeliner before a party. The scene was lit from above, and the light bounced on his hair, and fingers, while the rest of his head and the back of his hands were shaded.

I added more contrast and used halftone, so that the print becomes almost abstract, shifting as you look at it between a figurative scene, and deconstructed shapes and colours.
